Psychological defence

Psychological defence is society's collective ability to detect and resist the influence of information directed against Sweden by foreign powers or others outside the country.

This may, for example, involve another country spreading incorrect information, so-called disinformation, misinformation, or propaganda to Swedish citizens. The aim may be to undermine confidence in our politicians, authorities or other social institutions to sow mistrust among the people. Another purpose may to erode our will to defend ourselves.
Attempts to influence us, primarily through online platforms and social media, occur daily. New AI technology has made it even easier to create fake content.

We are all part of Sweden's psychological defence

We are all part of Sweden's psychological defence and are responsibile for the information we share with others. Avoid spreading disinformation, misinformation, and propaganda by following guidance developed by the Swedish Psychological Defence Agency:

  1. Be mindful of content that elicits a strong reaction.
  2. Only share information that you know comes from reliable sources.
  3. Try to verify information from several different sources.
  4. Get verification from official government sources when something serious has happened.
